Battle of the Books

Overview

Battle of the Books is a reading competition designed to improve reading and comprehension while building enthusiasm for reading using a fun and unique competition format. Students will compete in teams to demonstrate their knowledge of 7 preselected books.

Teams

  • Consist of 3-4 members

  • Students are expected to create a team name and elect a team captain.

  • Students are encouraged to keep a "Battle of the Books" log with notes/details about each book read.
    Suggestions for log notes include: title, author, setting, main characters, brief summary/plot.

  • Teams can meet before school, during WIN, & after school to discuss books & test their knowledge. You may meet in the library media center or ask another teacher to use their space.

Battle Rounds

In March, the Battle of the Books teams will compete against each other to determine the SAHS Battle of the Books Champion. The Champion will then compete in a state wide Battle of the Books Competition against other high schools to determine the State champion!

Benefits

  • Students who remain on the team through the battle rounds will earn a team Battle of

    Books t-shirt.

  • The SAHS winning team will earn the SAHS Battle of the Books Champion Title and their team name on the SAHS BOB trophy.
