Our District Superintendent and other leaders will be sharing information about the One Percent Educational Capital Improvements Sales & Use Tax (often referred to as the One Cent Sales Tax or Penny Sales Tax) during a series of meetings in September and October.
The previous One Cent Tax, approved in November 2014, made possible significant renovations and reconstructions of several schools listed on the ballot and approved by voters. This November, Aiken County voters will have the opportunity to consider renewal of the sales tax for a 10-year period. If renewed by voters this November, the tax would benefit South Aiken High School, Silver Bluff High School, Midland Valley High School, as well as the construction of a new elementary school in Area 3. Several contingency projects will also be on November’s ballot. Contingency projects would be addressed as funding is available and include campus improvement needs at schools throughout the district for roofing, secure school entry vestibules, and door lock upgrades, as well as additions to the classroom wings at Byrd Elementary, a classroom addition at Gloverville Elementary, and replacement of Greendale Elementary.
Please visit our website for additional information on the sales tax and the school facility project needs that will be on November’s ballot for voter consideration, and make plans to join us at an informational meeting.
The schedule for meetings the meetings in each area is as follows:
Tuesday, September 3, 6:30 p.m. at Silver Bluff High Shool (Area Five)
Monday, September 9, 6:30 p.m. at Ridge Spring Monetta Middle High (Area Four)
