Welcome to our Media Center

Where the quest for knowledge begins...

“The whole world opened up to me when I learned to read!” -Mary McCleod Bethune

Mossy Creek Elementary library, a great place to find a book or adventure that fits your interests perfectly! During our weekly visits we learn about the library, check out great books to read, Web tools for learning, how to access and use information, research, and so much more! We learn how to access information on the internet safely, and use our Media Center website to extend what we are learning in our classrooms and in the Media Center. We also reach out to others to spread the joy of reading through our many service learning projects that make a difference!

POLICIES

Mossy Creek Elementary Media Center Policies Circulation The Media Center strives to be an essential part of the instructional program and the hub of the school. We are assisting students and staff in becoming effective users of ideas and information while creating life-long learners and lovers of reading. The media center operates on a fixed schedule. Students come during their regular scheduled class time and are permitted to come throughout the day to exchange their books once they have finished reading and to utilize the media center at the convenience of the classroom teacher. Teachers and students are encouraged to check out materials as needed for personal or classroom use. Students are aware that classroom library books do not go home, but they are allowed to take media center books home. Check out Listed below are the amounts of books students are allowed to check out each week.

Books are due weekly and may be returned before the due date if needed. If time beyond the due date is needed, books can be renewed. Taking Care of Books Why is it important to take care of library books? To make sure everyone in our community/school has the opportunity to read the books in the library's collection, its important students keep the books they borrow in good condition. They can do their part by handling library books properly, protecting them when you're not reading them, and reporting any damage that happens in your care to Ms. Landy or Mrs. Coleman. Once a student checks out a book and leaves the media center, it is their responsibility to keep up with and take care of the book(s) they borrow. It is in good faith that we have loaned them the books in hope that they will return them in the same condition they were borrowed. There are no overdue fines when books are returned late, however we do know that accidents happen but when a student returns a book that is damaged (liquid, writing and marking with crayons, pencils, pens or markers, torn pages and labels pulled off) or has lost it he or she will have to pay to replace it.

EXPECTATIONS

Why do we have expectations in the media center? To help keep us safe, to help us get along/work together and to help us learn. We are a
