Day of Caring
The Aiken County Public School District, in partnership with Security Federal Bank and The United Way of Aiken County, began the ONE K-12 Community Day of Caring event during the 2016-17 school year, where students, staff and community volunteers rolled up their sleeves on a Saturday morning and worked side by side, completing beautification projects around each of our schools. The annual event has grown over the years, and we are grateful for the ongoing support from our community partners!
From applying a fresh coat of paint to the halls of an elementary school to planting flowers and spreading pine straw on the grounds of a middle school, volunteers and individuals have given thousands of hours over the years during this annual day of service.
As we continue to support service learning, students, staff and administration changed the format of the annual event during the 2019-20 school year, as a way to thank the community for its ongoing support. A group of volunteers from each school selected a service project in their community, and went out to serve. Several schools in Area 1 in Aiken gathered to wash cars for our Public Safety officers, other schools created care packages and filled up blessing boxes around town and picked up litter along the highway.
We look forward to hosing this event each year, and cannot thank our community partners and volunteers enough!
