Summer Reading

Dear North Augusta Elementary School Parents,

Thank you for another wonderful year of supporting our school library and especially encouraging your students in their love of reading!

As we are beginning the summer, I wanted to encourage everyone to take a little time each day to read, read , read!

Research has consistently documented the importance of summer reading. Students who read recreationally during the summer do better when the new school year begins. Studies show that students who do not read during the summer show a significant loss over the summer break. Research has shown that reading just four or five books during the summer can prevent this achievement and learning loss.  The purpose of North Augusta Elementary School’s Summer Reading Challenge is to encourage students to engage in self-selected recreational summer reading to prevent learning loss and to foster improved student achievement.

Click here to access to access a copy of the North Augusta Elementary School Summer Reading Log, which can be used to keep track of the days this summer that your child reads. Also included on the reading log is a link to Aiken County Public Library Summer Reading Program which is offering additional fun and rewarding reading activities that you might want to enjoy.

Have a wonderful summer and happy reading!
