Kennedy Middle School Title 1 Family Engagement Policy
2024-2025
Kennedy Middle School (KMS) believes that family engagement involves the participation of parents and family members in regular two-way meaningful communication involving student academic learning and other school activities. Our family engagement program and activities are designed to ensure the following:
Parents play an integral role in assisting their child’s learning.
Parents are encouraged to be actively involved in their child’s education.
Parents feel supported by KMS staff.
Parents are full partners in their child’s education offered opportunity to participate in decision-making, as appropriate, via service on committees such as the Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) or School Improvement Council (SIC).
Parents feel connected to other KMS families and the KMS community.
As part of the Family Engagement Policy, the KMS administration, faculty, and staff will uphold the following points:
Involve parents in an organized, ongoing, and timely way, in the planning, review and improvement of programs.
Hold an Annual Title 1 meeting to inform parents of their school’s participation in Title 1 and to explain its requirements.
Provide parents with an explanation of their child’s test results, school curriculum, and overall academic achievement of the school.
Offer regular meetings for parents to make suggestions and participate in school decisions as appropriate.
Provide timely responses to parents’ suggestions.
Develop and distribute a School-Parent Compact.
Ensure all information sent to parents is in a format and language the parents can understand.
Provide other practical support for parental involvement activities that parents may request.
