The school year, 1967, marked the opening of one of the first four vocational centers in the state of South Carolina. The Aiken County Vocational Center, a trade and industrial school, was created to serve students from all high schools in Aiken County. The first director was R.L. Coffey. Locally, Minnie B. Kennedy, a strong advocate of vocational education, was instrumental in promoting the need for a vocational center. She was supported in her efforts by board members J.G. McElmurray (Chairman), C.T. Marsh (Vice-Chair), B.T. Brinkley, J.R. Barton, J.C. Busbee, B.F. Gunnels, G.V. Mundy, F.S. Eaves, S.H. Boatwright, R.W. Boylston, J.P. Kneece, and Superintendent A.J. Rutland.
During the school year 1986-1987, the name of the school was changed to the Aiken County Career Center. In the 1999-2000 school year, the name of the school was changed to Aiken County Career and Technology Center.
