Ms. Breanna Allen receiving her Palmetto State Teachers Associate Grant with four individuals

Aiken County Public Schools teacher Breanna Allen has been selected as a recipient of the 2024 Palmetto State Teachers Association (PSTA) Classroom Grant. This is the third year of the PSTA classroom grants created as part of the organization's "Reinvesting in Our Members" program. The grants are awarded annually to encourage and support PSTA members as they serve students across our state.

The PSTA received 44 grant submissions from across the state this year from which only nine were selected as classroom grant award winners. Of these nine winners, two are teachers in Aiken County Public Schools.

Ms. Allen is a science teacher at Midland Valley High School. This grant will help fund the acquisition of resources to help her forensic science students complete ballistic trajectory labs. Currently, her students use the string method for determining ballistic trajectory. This requires one student to stand and hold all the strings at their measured trajectory angle to determine where they converge. This grant would provide tripods that could be used in place of individual students. The grant would also provide students with forensic rulers that are easier to view the measurements, which would allow for more accurate data collection. PSTA Director of Teacher Leadership, Craig King, surprised Ms. Allen on August 9th with the exciting news that her grant was chosen as a winner!

PSTA provides professional benefits to support its members throughout their careers in education. More information can be found on the Palmetto State Teachers Association website.

Congratulations, Ms. Allen, on this outstanding achievement!
