At the end of each school day, Midland Valley High students are not dismissed by bell, but rather launched with the playing of a modern version of the alma mater.
At the start of the 2023 school year, Principal Higgenbottom decided to have a new spin put on the original school song. He and media tech instructor, Ms. Francesca MacKie, collaborated with senior Omarion Jordan to produce the Alma Mater Rap. This version was instantly a hit with faculty and students. As the song’s popularity grew, Jordan and Higgenbottom both noted an increase in school spirit. The response to the Alma Mater Rap was so positive, it became the replacement to the school’s dismissal bell.
In addition to the rap version, MVHS in-house musicians have now created a country edition and a Spanish version of the original alma mater.
The commencement ceremony came to a close in 2024 with the singing of the school’s original alma mater and this year, all the students knew every word. It became a song that meant something special to each of them. When the class of 2024, which included Omarion Jordan, stood to file out of the arena, they were launched for the final time to The Alma Mater Rap.
