The thing I like best about being a school social work is providing the resources that assist families and give children the opportunity to be successful in school. I get joy when being a part of a continuous circle of helping that identifies children's needs, parent support and school's resources. As the Coordinator of Social Work/ McKinney Vento Liaison, it has been my greatest challenge to find community resources that meet the growing need. Many families are unable to secure stable housing, and children may have to move from place to place. It concerns me greatly. However, in my role I am glad that I am able to provide transportation so that the child can continue to attend the same school and enjoy the consistency of the school environment. This is the second year for Student Service Workers Spring into Action Food Drive, that collects child friendly foods that are given to students in need during the two-week spring break. We are also introducing a community clothing closet that will be accessible to help provide for students clothing needs. This is my twenty third year of being a school social worker and I am blessed to serve he families of Aiken County. It is HEART work!
The best part of what I get to do is helping people and making a positive impact in my community and schools. Social work is probably one of the most misunderstood professions. It's definitely not for everyone, it is a ministry. You have to be a people person and love people. You can't be judgmental at all and every situation is different. Being a school social worker is often cited as the ability to directly witness and contribute to the positive growth and development of students and sometimes their parents. The key aspects of this rewarding role includes like I said earlier building relationships with students, empowering students and parents, collaborating with families and making a difference in the community. If you know me , you know this job is for me!! I love people and I will do my best to do any and everything I can do to help them. My name is Adrienne Harris and I'm proud to say I'm a Student Service Worker for Aiken County Public School District
Congratulations to Aiken County Public School District's February Employee of the Month, Ms. Ruth Morris! Ms. Ruth Morris has worked for ACPSD for six years and is currently serving as the School Nurse at Midland Valley High School. Nurse Morris is always diligent in her work and cares a lot for our kids. Recently, a student came to her experiencing dizziness and chest pain. She promptly informed the parent, and the student was taken to the hospital. That morning, the mother called Ruth, expressing her gratitude and saying that, because of her quick action, she saved her child’s life. Both Ruth and the mother were emotional and grateful for the outcome. Yes, our nurses truly save lives! Thank you to our February Employee of the Month Ms. Ruth Morris for demonstrating excellence as an employee of ACPSD! We appreciate all you do!

Vincent Harmon. Helping others is the best thing to do in the world. It gives you purpose in life. It is a way to spread love and caring to others through your actions. Helping others helps our community, helping our community helps our world.
Keiautta Wad. I have always had a love for helping others. It gives me great fulfillment by providing support and necessities for families. Just showing up and being there goes a long way. Making sure our students receive the proper education to become successful in life. I do this because I'm compassionate when it comes to helping others. Being a school Social Worker is not just a profession, it's a ministry.
Bashonna Wright. I make a difference in the lives of Aiken County students because I am dedicated to providing the support and resources, they need to succeed both academically and personally. I have been fortunate to develop strong relationships with some of my high school McKinney Vento students by listening to them, showing them that they matter, and connecting them with scholarship opportunities. Being a voice of motivation for them and knowing that I’ve helped them overcome even just one obstacle, is incredibly fulfilling, and it motivates me to continue supporting them the best way that I can.
Deonna Brown. The best part of what I do is helping, guiding, supporting, and showing compassion for others because it is in my heart to do so. I believe everyone needs someone to lean on and encourage them; that is the path the Lord has sent me on. Working in Social Work is where God has led me, and I am so glad He has prepared and ordered my steps to do so. It is more than work for me, this is life, this is hope, this is Ministry.
Kim Hall. Why do I do what I do? I do what I do not only for me but to help others that may need my assistance. What I do is a ministry, to me! I enjoy assisting others in reaching and setting their goals of accomplishment. I like seeing the potential in others, their growth and development. I enjoy encouraging others to do their best and not give up. Working with the whole family allows me to see what the needs are for the family; also, it allows me to be able to reach the students, assisting in eliminating some of the challenges they may face in school and society. George Washington Carver once said, " How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving and tolerant of the weak and strong, because someday in your life you will have been all of these". This is why I do what I do!
Tomorrow, Wednesday, March 5, there is a threat of severe weather with wind gusts in the morning forecasted to exceed 40 mph. This wind speed exceeds the threshold allowed for school buses to be on roadways. This wind event will result in a need to shift to e-learning tomorrow. Employees should plan to report to their work location on a two-hour delayed start, with no building or office opening before 10 a.m. Afterschool extracurricular practices, games, and events will continue tomorrow as scheduled. There will be no QuestZone tomorrow. We apologize for the challenges that this will cause our families and appreciate your continued cooperation and support!
