Tips for Being Successful Learning Online
Students
1. Check communications daily: Effective communication in a virtual program requires a two-way approach. Make sure to check your email and the ACPSD app daily. In addition to live sessions, teachers will contact you via email and messages through the app.
2. Dedicated, organized learning space: Your workspace should be free of distractions like phones, TVs, pets, family members, or anything else that might interfere with your ability to learn and complete your work. Keep your area neat and organized!
3. Keep track of login information: Students should write their network and Microsoft login credentials in a physical notebook and keep it at their workstation. Ideally, students should memorize these credentials. This helps prevent issues with completing work due to not knowing how to log in.
4. Get help when needed: Students, don't hesitate to ask for help. In a virtual environment, teachers can't approach you as they would in a face-to-face setting, so it's important to speak up if you need support.
Parents
1. Make sure PowerSchool Contact Info is correct: If your information is not correct, we can’t reach you. Please ensure that your email and phone numbers are correct in PowerSchool. Our communication is sent through the primary contact phone and email information. Also, be sure to check communications regularly for information from teachers and administrators.
2. Talk with your child about school: Parents should have regular check-in conversations with their students, ideally at least once a week. Ask your child what they are currently learning, what is upcoming for the week, what they have recently completed, and if they have turned in all their assignments. This helps parents stay informed and prevents students from falling behind in their studies.
3. Check grades and student progress: Grades can be viewed in PowerSchool. Parents should download the PowerSchool app to stay updated on student grades and track progress. Additionally, parents are encouraged to download the Schoology app and create a parent account. Schoology provides access to course details, including announcements, study materials, and assignments, which can help parents support their students when needed.
