ACPSD superintendent Corey Murphy with five students who qualified to compete in the Regional Spelling Bee.

Dorothea Viner, a sixth grader from Highland Springs Middle School, won the Aiken County Public School District’s Scripps National Spelling Bee Finals competition Feb. 4.

Viner, who also won last year’s spelling bee, will advance with four other finalists to the South Carolina Regional Spelling Bee in Charlotte, N.C., on March 8.

During the competition Viner spelled the words confidently, repeating the word she was given before delivering each letter in a steady, unhurried rhythm before repeating the word again and returning to her place on the stage.
