This week, our Department of Student Services made their way to elementary schools across Aiken County to surprise 160 students with brand new bicycles. The annual Bicycle Drive was initiated by Mr. Carl White, District Director of Student Services, three years ago and has grown significantly each year.
The Holiday Bicycle Drive aims to provide elementary students in Aiken County Public Schools with bikes that promote physical activity, build confidence, and foster independence while encouraging a healthy lifestyle.
“Each bike brings a smile and a sense of pride as a child experiences the joy of owning something of their own,” shared Mr. White.
The goal was to provide two or three bikes to each elementary school in the District. Mr. White shared that his team was deeply moved as every elementary school received at least three bikes and some schools were gifted as many as 17 bikes for students this year. “This demonstrates the incredible strength of our school district and community coming together to make a difference,” he reflected.
School Counselors at each of the District’s 21 elementary schools collaborated with The Department of Student Services to determine the students who would receive bicycles this holiday season.
This year, The Department of Student Services received many donations from community members, partner organizations, as well as Aiken County Public School District schools, faculty, and staff. Notably, Midland Valley High School and Wagener-Salley High School donated a significant number of bicycles to this year’s holiday drive. The District’s Maintenance Department and Chase Ferguson, an alumnus of North Aiken Elementary, also made significant contributions.
Thank you to our District’s Department of Student Services and all who made this annual tradition possible!
