The Aiken County Public School District is pleased to announce the appointment of Kristin Risher as the Interim Principal of Paul Knox Middle School. Risher’s appointment, approved by the Aiken County Board of Education on July 9, 2024, came as the district began the new school year on July 22, 2024.
“I’m incredibly honored to have the opportunity to lead Paul Knox as Interim Principal,” said Risher. “Paul Knox has a rich tradition of high expectations and student learning, and I hope to continue that tradition to help all our students learn, grow, and prepare for high school.”
Risher brings a wealth of experience to her new role, having served as an Assistant Principal at North Augusta High School since 2018. Her exemplary leadership and commitment to student success have earned her numerous accolades, including nominations for Assistant Principal of the Year in 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024. She was recently named Advocate of the Year by the Palmetto State School Counselor Association for her collaborative efforts and problem-solving skills, which contributed to significant student academic and personal successes.
At North Augusta High School, Risher oversaw all instructional programming, coordinated teacher mentoring and coaching, implemented school-wide testing, led committees advancing strategic goals, facilitated professional development, and assisted in recruitment, retention, and hiring. While serving as an administrator at one of the district’s largest high schools, she also took on the role of Acting Principal when needed, managing daily operations and overseeing all teachers and staff. Prior to her time at North Augusta High, Risher was the Band Director at Silver Bluff High School, where she was recognized as Teacher of the Year in 2016.
Risher holds a bachelor’s degree in music education from the University of South Carolina, graduating Cum Laude in 2006, and a master’s degree in educational leadership from Georgia Regents University, where she maintained a 4.0 GPA. She is certified in multiple areas, including Tier 1 Secondary Principal and Cognitive Coaching, and is a proud graduate of both Aiken County Public Schools’ Leadership Academy (Cohort 2, 2018) and Aspiring Principal Program (Cohort 4, 2024).
A North Augusta resident since 2009, Risher is thrilled to lead Paul Knox Middle School and continue her service to the community she calls home. “I’m really excited about this new role,” she shared. “I’m excited to help make sure Paul Knox is a great place where all students can succeed.”
With the 2024-2025 school year underway, Risher has been actively engaging with the Paul Knox community, fostering a positive environment where every student, teacher, and parent feels empowered to achieve their fullest potential.
Parents and community members who haven’t yet had the chance to meet Paul Knox’s Interim Principal are invited to do so during the Open House on Monday, August 19, from 4-6 p.m. This event is a wonderful opportunity to connect with Risher and learn about the exciting courses, clubs, and activities available to Paul Knox students.
