Aiken County Public Schools teacher Jennifer McMillian has been selected as a recipient of the 2024 Palmetto State Teachers Association (PSTA) Classroom Grant. This is the third year of the PSTA classroom grants created as part of the organization's "Reinvesting in Our Members" program. The grants are awarded annually to encourage and support PSTA members as they serve students across our state.
The PSTA received 44 grant submissions from across the state this year from which only nine were selected as classroom grant award winners. Of these nine winners, two are teachers in Aiken County Public Schools.
Ms. McMillian is a STEM teacher at Jackson STEM Magnet Middle School. This project is innovative by allowing STEM students to actively participate in the learning of science through research, design, and construction of a sustainable and eco-friendly house. In Ms. McMillian’s STEM classroom, students are immersed in the 3D dimensional model of teaching science and engineering design process to cover the disciplinary core ideas and crosscutting concepts for South Carolina Science Standards. Through the use of this grant, students will be able to understand scientific inquiry and explore the scientific phenomenon of alternative energy. PSTA Director of Teacher Leadership, Craig King, surprised Ms. McMillian on August 9th with the exciting news that her grant was chosen as a winner!
PSTA provides professional benefits to support its members throughout their careers in education. More information can be found on the Palmetto State Teachers Association website.
Congratulations, Ms. McMillian, on this outstanding achievement!
