SPORTS: South Aiken High's Hunter Morrison Signs With Mars Hill

South Aiken golfer Hunter Morrison found a school in Mars Hill that had everything he was looking for. Monday, he put pen to paper and removed the unknown, signing to continue his golf career with the Lions.

"It was really cool," Morrison said. "It's like a sense of relief, because you spend so much time searching and talking to coaches and visiting, and then everything's up in the air and you don't really know what's going to happen. Then, to finally make it official, a lot is lifted off your shoulders."

Morrison chose Mars Hill, located about 20 miles north of Asheville, North Carolina, because the school had such a good combination of the things he wanted in a school – like the location, the campus, his future teammates, the courses where he'll practice, even his preferred major of computer science.

Joining a young team that graduates just one senior, Morrison will have an opportunity to come in right away and play in a lot of tournaments. He visited the campus in December and met the team, having lunch with most of them in addition to the coach, and got along with them really well.

Morrison finished third last year at the Thoroughbred Invitational and was fourth this year against a stronger field. He's won four South Carolina Junior Golf Association tournaments, and he competed in some big tournaments over the summer like the South Carolina Golf Association Junior Championship and the Grant Bennett Florence Junior Invitational.
