acGATEWAY: Showcase For Aiken County Students' Talents Gets New Venue

acGateway Rehearsal

BATH — Students in Aiken County Public School’s acGATEWAY summer arts program will perform music from some of Broadway’s hottest tickets – Disney and “Hamilton” – at showcases spotlighting first elementary children and then middle and high school students.

The elementary school showcase for students in grades 3-5 will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday in the auditorium of Langley-Bath-Clearwater Middle School. The school’s address is 29 Lions Trail, Warrenville.

Performing arts students, including dancers, actors, instrumentalists and vocalists, will perform to music from popular Disney movies and musicals, including “Frozen” and “Beauty and the Beast.” Visual arts students will display their artwork in the cafeteria.

“You’ll see a Disney-inspired theme,” said Randy Hood, the fine arts coordinator for the school district and director of acGATEWAY. “I’m very excited about the performances.”

The showcase for middle and high school students will be at 7 p.m. July 10 and 11 in the auditorium at LBC Middle.

The performance will feature dancers and musicians, too, and will end with a production of “Songs from Hamilton,” from the Broadway musical “Hamilton,” about the life of American founding father Alexander Hamilton. The school cafeteria will become a gallery for works by visual arts students.

"The kids are totally into it,” Hood said. “They are unbelievable, given that age group. It’s going to be great music, great dance and the visual arts also will be amazing.”

Both the elementary and the middle-high school showcases are free and open to the public.
