Aiken Technical College partnerships benefit students, industry

Aiken Technical College’s partnerships with local business and industry benefit not only students but also the community.

For students, the partnerships provide scholarships, hands-on work experience and continuous training, according to the college’s website at atc.edu. The community benefits from having a highly skilled, highly trained workforce whose skills can be updated on demand, meeting the needs of existing employers and attracting new companies to the area.

AT&T recently made a $7,500 donation to the ATC Foundation for scholarships that will give Midland Valley High School students a head start on earning their college degrees, according to a news release from the college.

The donation will benefit the Aiken Early College program, which allows eligible students to complete an associate in arts degree from ATC while still in high school. Students can transfer course credits to other colleges or universities and potentially enter college as juniors.

The program, created in 2016, is a partnership between ATC and the Aiken County Public School District.

“On behalf of the ATC Foundation, we are humbled by the generosity of AT&T in support of Aiken Early College,” said Chris Dickson, chairman of the ATC Foundation Board of Trustees. “These funds will help support tuition for the 45 students enrolled in this program. These highly motivated students are taking college level classes while in high school.”
