Wagener-Salley High School Senior Key’Asia Dunbar won the State Championship in the shot-put event at the Class A Track and Field Championship Meet held on May 22, 2021. Key’Asia held the state champion title from 2019, and is a back-to-back, repeat state champion in this event! She won the event in 2019 and has competed in the Class A state Champion Meet every year since eighth grade, excluding 2020 because COVID restrictions canceled that year’s meet. Key’Asia’s victory in 2019 was the first state championship won by an athlete from Wagener-Salley High School in track and field in more than 25 years.
In addition to her accomplishments at the state level, Key’Asia also won first place in the shot-put for the past three years at the Region III-A Championship Track Meet and has been one of the top performers at the Upper State Class A Track and Field Meet for the past three years. She is an all-round athlete who has lettered in volleyball, basketball, and track and field for the past four seasons. She is a dedicated student and a fierce competitor in all endeavors. She exhibits good moral fiber and stands firm in her beliefs. Key’Asia’s accomplishments as a student -athlete at Wagener-Salley High reflect wonderfully upon herself, her family and the proud Wagener-Salley community.
