T-Breds Wrap Up Unbeaten Region Championship

South Aiken put the finishing touch on its regular season Friday night, never trailing en route to a smothering win over Midland Valley.

The T-Breds defense started the game off strong, forcing a fumble from Midland Valley’s Joenathan Peeples on the Mustangs’ first drive of the game.

South Aiken’s offense quickly took advantage of the turnover, as quarterback Terrence Smith had a 37-yard run before Jevon Edwards ran 15 yards to the end zone for the first score of the game.

After a few punts, South Aiken had a touchdown called back due to a penalty. That would happen twice more during the game, prompting head coach Chris Hamilton to say after the game that his team needed to “clean that up.”

Luckily for the T-Breds, they did end up scoring on that drive on a 2-yard run by Smith.

South Aiken soon extended its lead after a Midland Valley miscue. Forced to punt backed up near their own end zone, a bad snap went through the end zone, resulting in a safety for the T-Breds.

On the ensuing punt, Tay Whitfield made a house call with a 75-yard touchdown return to put his team up 23-0.

The rest of the second quarter was filled with punts, as neither team was able to get much going.

South Aiken got the ball to start the second half, but Edwards fumbled on the first play. Midland Valley recovered the ball near midfield.

The Mustangs were unable to capitalize on the turnover, as penalties doomed the drive.
