The Aiken County Public School District hosted its annual Meet the Principal and Meet the Teacher event, which gave parents and students a chance to get to know their new teachers and reconnect with old ones. Those visiting Millbrook Elementary had the opportunity to meet with its new principal and assistant principal, Jacqueline Osteen and Terra Van Der Linden.
Osteen was enthusiastic about the relationships she’ll be building with the community.
“So far, meeting all these sweet faces and the awesome parents is just so exciting,” she said. “It’s definitely going to be a different year, but we have a lot of great things going on at Millbrook. And I’ve never met such a strong group of teachers – they’re so eager to start.”
Van Der Linden said she was looking forward to the school year and its possibilities.
“I’m excited about meeting new students. It’s going to be a great year,” she said.
Graniteville Elementary was also filled with excitement during the event as teachers prepared to meet new and old students.
“You can tell they’ve matured from the year before, and it’s good to see the excitement in their eyes,” said Lisha Cooksey who teaches music at the school.
She isn’t the only educator who enjoys watching how the students change with time.
Vivian Martin, a third-grade teacher at Graniteville Elementary said, “It’s really cool how in third grade they grow so much. The process is so sweet.”
