Gloverville Elementary Night Of Lights Features A Literary Wonderland

Students and parents waited enthusiastically outside of Gloverville Elementary School on Thursday night for its third annual Night of Lights literacy event.

When the doors opened up, children rushed inside to have their picture taken with Santa Claus and to explore the decorated hallways.

“We worked really hard all year planning for this event,” Assistant Principal Kristle Golden said.

Several students talked about what they were looking forward to this year.

“I’m excited for the lights, and the candy!” said student Ariella Glascock.

“I’ve never been here before, so that’s what I’m excited about,” said another student, Lacie Seay.

The main purpose of the Night of Lights is to encourage literacy – each student got to choose either a coloring or activity book upon entrance, and more books were available at different stations set up throughout the school. Students and parents enjoyed collecting books, bookmarks, bananas and hot chocolate, and got to make a Christmas ornament to take home.

Unity Outreach Church provided food for everyone who came, anticipating to feed around 400 people.
