The 2015-16 basketball season delivered on a successful campaign at South Aiken High School as the Thoroughbreds won 18 games and advanced to the third round of the state playoffs led by an All-State selection at guard.
And when the team found itself in need of a new head coach after first-year head coach Will Lowther stepped down for personal reasons, the school turned to a familiar face for its next leader in assistant coach Michael Prandy. Chance Prandy, Michael Prandy’s son, led South Aiken this past season with a 16.8 per game scoring average paired with 8.5 rebounds per game before signing to play collegiately at Anderson University in the Upstate.
South Aiken High School Principal Ms. Jill Jett said Prandy’s coaching experience (he served as an assistant men’s basketball coach at USC Aiken from 2011-2015), and his familiarity with the team made him an exceptional candidate.
“It is with great pleasure that we announce Mr. Prandy as our new varsity boys basketball coach,” Ms. Jett stated Wednesday. “He is recommended on the result of his interview, a stellar resume, his knowledge of our students and our program, and his passion for the South Aiken basketball program.”
Candidates were interviewed by Ms. Jett, two assistant principals, the school’s athletics director and a member of the community.
Mr. Prandy teaches at Kennedy Middle School and will remain in that position for the upcoming 2016-17 school year while coaching the Thoroughbreds.
