Spearman Congratulates 2016 National Blue Ribbon Schools
The United States Department of Education recognized 329 2016 National Blue Ribbon Schools. Four South Carolina schools received the award based on their academic excellence.
“I am so proud of the dedication to excellence that these schools have shown,” said State Superintendent Molly Spearman.
“Their leadership and commitment to ensuring students are prepared forsuccess will serve as models to schools across our state,” concluded Spearman.
The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors public and private elementary, middle, and high schools where students achieve very high learning standards or are making notable improvements in closing the achievement gap. The award affirms the hard work of students, educators, families, and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging content.
The four South Carolina award winners were recognized for the “Exemplary High Performing Schools” category, meaning they are among the state’s highest performing schools as measured by state assessments or nationally normed tests.
Four South Carolina school named 2016 National Blue Ribbon Schools are:
· South Aiken High School, Aiken County Public Schools, Principal Jill Jett
· Waccamaw Intermediate, Georgetown County School District, Principal Tim Carnahan
· Wade Hampton High School, Greenville County School District, Principal Eric Williams
· Bethel Elementary, Greenville County School District, Principal Nerissa Lewis
