Aiken High Senior Frelicia Tucker Named Wendy’s Heisman National Finalist

Of around 20,000 students from across the country who applied as part of the 2016 Wendy’s High School Heisman competition, only an elite 10 remain.

Aiken High School’s Frelicia Tucker counts herself fortunate to be among them.

Tucker, who was named the Wendy’s Heisman winner for South Carolina last week, a process which first saw the state listing narrowed to 100 male and 100 female candidates, is a tennis and track-and-field standout in addition to solid credentials in the classroom and in community service.

She was surprised with the semifinal announcement during an assembly held Monday morning at the school and attended by her senior classmates, school administrators and staff, a representative from Wendy’s and local dignitaries.

“Frelicia is a role model for her peers, and we couldn’t be more proud of her,” commented Aiken High School Principal Garen Cofer.

Frelicia is also the first student from South Carolina to ever be named a Wendy’s Heisman national semifinalist, Mr. Cofer added.

As a national semifinalist, she will receive a $100 Wendy’s gift card, a $500 scholarship, and an all-expense paid trip to New York City for the Wendy’s High School Heisman Awards, where the Wendy’s Heisman national winner will be announced. The awards ceremony is scheduled to be shown December 11 at 8:30 p.m. to a nationally-televised audience on ESPN 2.

“I haven’t prepared anything (to say), but am just beyond blessed,” Tucker told the crowd during Monday’s assembly.”
