Members of the Aiken County Board of Education offered a positive review and high praise for Superintendent Dr. Sean Alford’s overall performance and achievement of focus area goals set for the 2015-16 school year. This evaluation marks Alford’s first as superintendent of Aiken County Public Schools.
During the October 25 school board meeting, Aiken County’s superintendent presented highlights of his work in our school system, alongside a 65-page booklet detailing the work he and his team had accomplished to date.
District highlights from the 2015-16 school year include the following, and many more:
- Attained a record-high graduation rate of 88.6%.
- 20% reduction of district office clerical staff and increased school support.
- Expansion of Gifted & Talented Program.
- Revision of the Code of Conduct.
- District-led, systematic Custodial and Landscaping Programs.
Following a discussion and formal evaluation of his performance, this evening Board members returned from Executive Session expressing gratitude to Dr. Alford for bringing his own unique and visionary brand of leadership to Aiken County while also building a dedicated Leadership Team that is “second to none,” according to board chair Mrs. Rosemary English.
Vice Chair Mr. Levi Green made the motion that the board concluded Dr. Alford would receive an “Excellent” evaluation for the 2015-16, and that as a result of his “overall excellence,” that his contract would be extended by two years through June 30, 2020 and that he’d receive a 4% increase, effective July 1, 2016.
Mr. Green’s motion was properly seconded and unanimously approved by all school board members present at tonight’s meeting.
“He is absolutely superb,” Board Chair Mrs. Rosemary English commented after the meeting. “Every one of us felt that he had reached all of the focus points, exceeded expectations and done an excellent job.”
