CTE MONTH: Media Technology Program Students Learn Fundamentals Of Multimedia Excellence

The Media Technology Program at Aiken County Career & Technology Center (also known as AC3 Media) is a two-year program in which students learn the basics of television production and video editing.

Using various types of technology and multiple learning strategies, students participate in a variety of video projects such as the basic skills, training, and ethics of broadcast news and photojournalism. They produce music videos, commercials, public service announcements, and assist other programs, our District office, and ACPSD schools in filming special events. Some of their work has even aired on local television outlets!

This course covers the challenges faced by multimedia journalists in working with still photos, audio, video and text elements. Students must display a sense of commitment and the initiative necessary in completing assignments as they prepare for multimedia news production in professional newsrooms and production houses.

The instructor, James Dean, previously spent 20 years working in broadcast television where he earned two Georgia Associated Press Awards and a Southeast Emmy Award. By bringing his wealth of knowledge to the classroom, students are constantly engaged in producing videos of a high standard and learning how to succeed in the new digital media world.
