CTE MONTH: Cybersecurity Program Equips Students with Skills Needed for In-Demand Careers

The Cybersecurity Program at the Aiken County Career & Technology Center is a two-year program in which students learn the foundations and body of technologies, processes and practices designed to protect networks, computers, programs and data from attack, damage or unauthorized access. In a computing context, security includes both cybersecurity and physical security. Ensuring cybersecurity requires coordinated efforts throughout an information system. Elements of cybersecurity include: application security, information security, network security, disaster recovery/business continuity planning, operational security, and end-user education.

Students have the opportunity to earn CompTIA’s Network+ and Security+ certifications. These certifications are accepted worldwide.

Cybersecurity students also have the opportunity to participate in USAFA CyberPatriots competition, coding activities, and community service, as well as, shadow IT departments.

Cybersecurity graduates may find employment in small and large, public and private industries, all levels of government, and the military.  Students may even find careers abroad.  In addition, students gain valuable Technical Advanced Placement (TAP) credit toward computer science certification and degree programs in the South Carolina Technical College System.
