The inaugural Aiken County Public School District Fine Arts Festival takes place this Saturday, April 29, from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at South Aiken High School.

The vision for a District-wide and community inclusive fine arts festival launched during the District’s strategic planning effort in 2016. A large committee of school district personnel and fine arts professionals drawn from across Aiken County organized the festival, with each member bringing their individual expertise to the table to make the festival the best it can be.

Admission to the festival is free.

Mr. Randy Hood, who serves as Aiken County Public Schools Fine Arts Coordinator, says festival attendees will appreciate with the musical and artistic talents that will be on hand April 29.

“When I started really looking at the final schedule I began to get very excited about the festival because of the variety of high-quality performances that we are going to have,” he said. “We are going to have some of our top performing ensembles participating, including the North Augusta High wind ensemble and the North Augusta High choir from one part of the county and the South Aiken High chorale and the Kennedy Middle School on-stage show choir from another part of the county in addition to many other performances.

“We have also had excellent participation from our District visual arts instructors and I think that will be a really impressive collective display.”

In order to accommodate so many talented musicians, musical performances will run simultaneously in the gymnasium and auditorium at South Aiken High School. Meanwhile, the school’s commons area will host visual art displays. All of the venues will be within a few steps of one another, making it easy for patrons to choose the performances they wish to attend.

“This idea, for our very first Aiken County Fine Arts Festival, has been well received, not only within the District, but across the county as well,” Hood concluded.
