'Stars' of Public Education Shine Bright, LBC Middle Educator Patrick Newsome Named District Teacher of the Year

DR HARDY AND PATRICK NEWSOME

The Aiken County Public School District held its annual Stars of Public Education employee recognition banquet Thursday, April 27, at the USC Aiken Convocation Center celebrating the very best in public education in Aiken County.

Langley-Bath-Clearwater Middle School mathematics teacher Mr. Patrick Newsome was announced as the District 2017-18 Teacher of the Year. He succeeds 2016-17 District Teacher of the Year Dr. Elisabeth Hardy of North Augusta High School.

“I am beyond humbled,” Mr. Newsome said following the announcement. “Just knowing that I represent so many amazing teachers in this District who deserve this just as much as I do is so special. This is life changing. It really is. I am excited about the new role and I am looking forward to serving as Aiken County’s Teacher of the Year.”

Our presenting sponsors Bob Richards Automotive and Savannah River Nuclear Solutions made the banquet event possible alongside the generosity of many community partners. We appreciate their support for all Aiken County educators.

Additional honors for the evening went to Division of Administration/Superintendent and Board of Education Administrative Assistant Ms. Rose Puckett, named the District Giving Even More (GEM) Award winner, and South Aiken High School Principal Ms. Jill Jett, who was named as Aiken County Public Schools’ first-ever Principal of the Year.

The evening’s keynote speaker was Aiken High School senior and National Wendy’s High School Heisman winner Ms. Frelicia Tucker.
