SPORTS: Wagener-Salley High School Track & Field Team Excels at Class A Upper-State Championship Meet

Congratulations to the Wagener-Salley High School boys and girls track teams on a successful performance at the Class A Upper-State Track and Field Championship Meet held Saturday, May 6, at Eastside High School.

As a team, the boys finished fourth and the girls ninth of 20 schools eligible to participate in the meet. Wagener-Salley High qualified three relay teams for the Class A State Track and Field Championship Meet to be held at Spring Valley High School in Columbia this Saturday, May 13.

The boys’ 4 x 800-meter relay team finished in first place, and the 4 x 400-meter relay team finished third to earn a spot in the state championship meet. Meanwhile, the girls’ 4 x 800-meter relay team qualified for the state meet by finishing fourth. These achievements mark the first time in more than 12 years that Wagener-Salley High School will have a relay team competing for a state championship.

In addition to the relay teams, several athletes from Wagener-Salley High earned spots in the state championship. These WSHS athletes include the following students:

Henry Peterson (triple jump); Lance Adams (800-meter); Ja’lasyiana Williams, (400-meter); and Key’Asia Dunbar (shot-put).

Members of the Class A Upper State Champion boys 4x800-meter relay team are Lance Adams, Reginald Gleaton, Balam Gunter and Phillip Stroble. Members of the Boys 4 x 400-Meter Relay Team are Ar’uan Edwards, Michael Mitchell, Henry Peterson and Kyrique Vance.

Members of the girls’ 4 x 800-meter relay team include Trinity Ables, Maliah Harris, La Java Williams and Ja’lasyiana Williams.
