Sandra Ford Shealey Sworn in as New District 1 School Board Member

Although recently retired following nearly three decades of public service, beginning in the Department of Social Services and continuing as a mental health caseworker, Sandra Ford Shealey could not completely withdraw from life as a public servant.

Shealey, sworn in as the newest Aiken County Board of Education member during the September 26, 2017, regular board meeting, represents District 1. Her husband, Michael, their son, Bryson, and close friends, joined her during the ceremony.

“I think we have a great board, and I am looking forward to working with everyone. I am so excited about all of the things we have to look ahead to in Aiken County,” Shealey stated. “I look forward to working with the (District 1) community and expressing those needs here, and I think it’s just an exciting time.”

Shealey grew up in Aiken, attended Aiken County Public Schools and graduated from Aiken High School. Following a year of study at USC Aiken, she earned an undergraduate degree in English from the University of South Carolina in Columbia.

“I have been so pleased with our schools here in Aiken County. Our son goes to Wagener-Salley High School, and we are so glad he has been able to attend Aiken County Public Schools,” Shealey added. “With so many new opportunities available to our students, I am just happy to be a part of it.”
