In just the second season of competitive wrestling for Aiken County Public Schools, the school district has placed six competitors in the South Carolina High School League state individual wrestling finals, with Reid Bolen of South Aiken High School capturing the Upper State Class AAAA crown in the 195-pound weight class behind an unbeaten tournament record of 4-0.
The Upper State and Lower State championships were held this past weekend across the state.
Other school district state qualifiers in Class AAAA included second-place Upper State finishers Raekwon Jackson (132 pounds) of Midland Valley High School and Griffith James (160 pounds) of Aiken High School, and fourth-place finishers DeAndre McKinnis (138 pounds) of North Augusta High School, JaShon Horn (220 pounds) of Aiken High, and Ethan New (285 pounds) of South Aiken High School. Only the top four competitors at the Upper State and Lower State competitions advance to the state finals.
“We congratulate these young men and their coaches on their outstanding performances at the Upper State wrestling tournament and advancing as state qualifiers, and we wish them all the best in state competition as they represent themselves, their schools and our school district,” commented Aiken County Board of Education Chairman Levi Green.
The South Carolina High School League state individual wrestling finals will be held this weekend at the Anderson Civic Center located in Anderson, South Carolina.
