On May 17, 2018, Aiken County Public Schools will highlight and celebrate the academic excellence of its highest achieving graduating seniors. The first-annual Senior Scholars Banquet will be a formal occasion for top students and their families held at The Palmetto Terrace in North Augusta.
Qualifications for designation as a Senior Scholar include being among the top 10% of the school’s graduating class, a minimum 3.8 Grade Point Average (GPA), and a history of strong academic performance-earning no grade lower than a B for 15 consecutive quarters of high school.
Seventy-nine students from the nearly 1,500 12th grade students across the county’s seven high schools currently qualify for this recognition. The event will be an opportunity to highlight our community’s best partners to honor our county’s best students.
“This is an extremely high honor for our most dedicated and conscientious students,” Dr. Sean Alford, Superintendent, commented on the new recognition program. “We look forward to engaging the community in celebration of these students and honoring them with gifts and awards.”
The Senior Scholars Banquet will be a celebration and spotlight of each student highlighting academic success as they end their high school careers. In recognition of their academic success, Senior Scholars will be presented with a Senior Scholar Medallion that will be worn with their graduation attire. In addition, students will share their post-graduation plans and pose for photographs with the district superintendent and board chair. The evening will conclude with the announcement of an overall Valedictorian from the 2017 Aiken County Public Schools Graduating Class and his or her remarks.
“Scholarships, technology, dorm room essentials, restaurant gift cards and other donations in honor of these top students would make the celebration for Senior Scholars even more special,” Mr. Alvin Pressley, Executive Director of High Schools, said.
Businesses and individuals with a desire to join us in celebration of these top students are encouraged to contact Aiken County Public Schools’ Communications Department at (803) 641-2639 for partnership information.
