Dr. Mendi Tucker, a native of Saluda, South Carolina, will join Julie Revelle as an Executive Director of Elementary Schools beginning with the 2018-19 school year. School board members unanimously approved the current Gloverville Elementary School leader for this administrative appointment on the Executive Leadership Team during Tuesday’s regularly scheduled meeting held at North Augusta High School.
Tucker joined Aiken County Public Schools in 2016 and Gloverville Elementary is thriving under her leadership. Students at Gloverville recently had the highest scores of all elementary schools in the district on the SCPASS in social studies. Tucker’s aggressive approach to data-driven instruction is evident in all that she does. She serves as a member on the Task Force for Computer Assisted Instruction (CAI) and is an AdvancED training representative for the district and schools.
Prior to joining our District, Tucker served for a number of years in neighboring Edgefield County as a Principal and Master Instructional Coach (2012-2016). While in Edgefield County, she also directed the Read to Succeed Summer Reading Camp (2013-14), was the district English Language Arts (ELA) representative for S.C. Literacy Leaders, and the Red Carpet Coordinator. She also previously served as a Principal in Anderson District Two (2011-2012) and as an Assistant Principal in Lexington One (2007-2011), though most of her career was spent in Saluda where she was a teacher, Literacy Coach, and Adult Education Director (1992-2007).
“Dr. Tucker’s varied experience as a curriculum coach, administrator, and AdvancED lead evaluator will be a tremendous asset to the Elementary Executive Leadership Team,” Dr. Sean Alford, Superintendent, commented. “We’re looking forward to the expertise of this dynamic elementary team and the new energy they’ll bring in support of our curriculum and building-level principals.”
Tucker received her Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Nova South Eastern University in 2008, a Master’s in Elementary Education in 1994 from Lander University and a Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education from USC Aiken.
“I’m honored to be part of this cutting-edge and innovative leadership team,” Dr. Tucker stated. “I look forward to continuing to learn from elementary school principals and offering support in managing the day-to-day operations while also providing effective leadership to meet the instructional, learning and educational program goals of the district.”
