While serving in Aiken County Public Schools over the past six years as a District-level content interventionist and school-based instructional coach, Micki Dove developed a special bond with her colleagues and grew her leadership capacity. She will now take those experiences and relationships to the next level as the school district’s Director of Curriculum Support. Aiken County Board of Education members approved Dove’s appointment during the school board’s June 11 regularly scheduled meeting.
“Micki will be a wonderful asset to the leadership team in the Instructional Division,” commented Aiken County Public Schools Chief Officer of Instruction, Jeanie Glover. “Her experience with curriculum and instruction as well as her ability to lead large initiatives while managing a team make her a perfect fit for this role.”
“I am very passionate about what I do, and I appreciate the value this position offers to our school district,” Dove stated. “We have phenomenal content experts in our content interventionists. I have worked with all of them for a number of years and they have so many strengths. I am thrilled to be able to continue our work together.”
As the District’s Director of Curriculum Support, Dove will monitor, evaluate and manage the development of the school district’s curriculum through the curriculum support staff and teacher curriculum writing teams. The District’s curriculum support staff consists of 17 content interventionists who work directly with teachers by instructional level and subject content to write and implement curriculum for Aiken County’s public schools.
“Having the opportunity to build our capacity through vertical collaboration will be one important part of our professional growth moving forward,” Dove commented. “For example, we will be able to have our elementary, middle and high school science content interventionists work together on specific areas, or in developing new professional development for and with teachers.”
Dove’s academic background includes a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Francis Marion University, and a Master of Education in Leadership of Educational Organizations degree from American InterContinental University.
Prior to serving as a district-level Science Content Interventionist, Dove served as an instructional coach and science teacher at Paul Knox Middle School. She has also served as a classroom teacher at the elementary level, including three years at Mossy Creek Elementary teaching fourth-grade science and mathematics.
“With our current team of content interventionists we are able to provide much more specialized support for teachers and spend more time in classrooms working shoulder to shoulder with them,” Dove added.
During her time with Aiken County Public Schools, Dove has served as lead facilitator of the STEM Cyber Middle School Curriculum Task Force and ACPSD Curriculum Executive Committee, and as a leader and developer for the ACPSD Instructional Framework Task Force. She also serves as chair of the Ruth Patrick Science and Education Center Advisory Board and as a district director of the South Carolina Science Council.
Dove is a member of the International Reading Association, the National Educator’s Association, the S.C. Science Education Leadership Association, the South Carolina Science Council, and the National Science Teachers Association, among other professional organizations.
Dove looks forward to being able to work in a more supportive role with the curriculum support staff, a team that will function as a unit.
“This position will allow me to focus on building team cohesion and I am excited about having the opportunity to work more closely with our outstanding group of content professionals,” Dove stated. “I love working collaboratively, and everyone on our team will have the opportunity to learn and grow and make a difference for all of our teachers and students.”
Dove began serving in her role as the new Director of Curriculum Support earlier this month.
