Twenty-three South Aiken High School DECA members traveled to Washington D.C., November 13-18 for a national Leadership Conference.
Highlights of the trip included a special behind-the-scenes tour of the White House and the U.S Capitol. Students also visited many national monuments, Smithsonian museums, and went ice-skating in the National Mall. Our DECA members had a meeting with U.S Congressman Joe Wilson who spoke about his role in politics and representing South Carolina.
While in D.C, former SAHS student and DECA member Stephanie Shuford took our students on a special behind the scenes tour of Yelp’s D.C. headquarters. Stephanie spoke to our DECA members about her current job at Yelp and career opportunities in the field of Sales and Marketing. As part of the Leadership Conference, DECA members attended workshops focusing on careers, colleges, competition, and professional development.
Students also heard from motivational speakers and networked with over 1600 DECA members from around the country.
