District Celebrates Exemplary Service of Dr. Shawn Foster

As Chief Officer of Operations and Student Services, Dr. Shawn Foster provided excellent and distinguished levels of service in a critical role for Aiken County Public Schools. During his five years with the District, Foster oversaw District-wide construction, grounds and facility improvement projects, streamlined maintenance protocols, and increased student support structures.

Foster assumed a new role as superintendent of Orangeburg County Public Schools July 1.

Aiken County Superintendent King Laurence praised Foster for his careful stewardship of the school district’s critical construction projects and his collaborative work to enhance the District’s infrastructure of student support services.

“The extensive leadership Dr. Shawn Foster has brought to our school district cannot be overstated,” commented Aiken County Superintendent King Laurence. “From his commitment to premier learning environments for all students and operational oversight of facility improvements, which have consistently been spectacular, as well as on time and under budget, to his seemingly innate ability to unify employees, students and community members in collaborative efforts that have enhanced nearly every aspect of our district, it goes without saying that we are tremendously grateful that Dr. Foster chose Aiken County as a place to further his educational career. Orangeburg has selected an extraordinary leader to guide them through a critical transition in consolidating their community's public schools.”

The search for the District’s next Chief Officer of Operations and Student Services is underway.

According to an announcement for the position placed on Aiken County Public Schools’ website, the ideal candidate will “provide leadership, coordination, and direction in operations and facilities construction management, social work, alternative programs, psychological and health services and direct all activities related to student services at the district level including student attendance accounting, student records services, student discipline and coordination of student data bases.”

The position also supervises the Maintenance programs of the district, oversees Transportation for the district, and supervises the Department of Technology and Instructional Material Center. Additionally, the position coordinates the District’s Energy Conservation Committee, the District’s Safety Committee and coordinates selection of architects for ACPSD’s capital improvements among other responsibilities.

The position will be advertised for two weeks, with a close date scheduled for Sunday, July 5.

Certainly, recognizing Foster’s promotion leaves Aiken County Public Schools with big shoes to fill, the District is hopeful to have an impressive applicant pool and a hiring recommendation for the Board of Education’s consideration during its regularly scheduled meeting planned for Tuesday, July 14.
