During the Tuesday, January 26, 2020, meeting of the Aiken County Board of Education Aiken County Public Schools celebrated School Board Recognition Month to say thank you to board members for all they do to support the school district’s administration, schools, teachers, and students.
Each January the South Carolina School Boards Association celebrates School Board Recognition Month. This provides school districts and communities across the Palmetto State with the opportunity to recognize the hard work and hundreds of hours of service given by board members. The theme of “School Board Strong” is a reminder that while board members are elected individually by members of the community to represent their voice and ensure the success of our students, they also act collectively as a body to accomplish that mission.
School board members have faced incredible challenges this year – challenges no other board members before them have. They've met many times, held long discussions, heard from thousands of constituents, students, and employees in making tough decisions affecting nearly 25,000 students and 4,000 employees.
As a small token of our District's appreciation, each board member was presented with a unique, student-created piece of art by Superintendent King Laurence.
Also, during the meeting each board member signed the South Carolina School Board Member Ethical Principles poster indicating their public vow to uphold effective governance principles and pledge to improve public education in Aiken County.
