Over the past decade Leslie Lowe has served as an assistant principal in Aiken County Public Schools. She will now use different yet equally beneficial experiences as an administrator at two schools to prepare her for the next step in her educational career as a building principal.
Aiken County Board of Education members approved Lowe’s appointment as the new principal at Clearwater Elementary School for the 2021-22 school year during the school board’s March 23 regularly scheduled meeting. Longtime Aiken County school administrator Eddie Watkins will serve as the school’s interim principal through the end of the current school year.
“I’m just really excited for what’s to come,” Lowe stated. “At the same time leaving everyone at Mossy Creek is not easy because I’ve built so many special relationships here. We work so well together as a team to help our students and families which is the ultimate goal.”
Lowe’s academic background includes a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education and a Masters of Education in Educational Leadership from Augusta State University.
Prior to serving as an assistant principal at Mossy Creek Elementary, Lowe served as an assistant principal at Redcliffe Elementary for three years. She also served as an elementary school teacher for several years, all in Aiken County Public Schools, teaching students in third grade at Ridge Spring-Elementary, and fifth grade at Jefferson Elementary and Mossy Creek Elementary.
In her time as a school administrator, Lowe has supervised 90 employees and over 700 students while also serving as a member of the Aiken County Public Schools Curriculum Team. She completed the school district’s Leadership Academy, has developed and presented professional learning modules, coordinated the school’s 504 program and the school’s state testing, and led the school’s safety and security planning, alongside many other duties.
“I’ve had the privilege of serving as a school administrator for a number of years at different schools and with different leaders. These experiences have ultimately prepared me for this next step,” commented Lowe. “Every school community is different so having a well-rounded perspective is important as a building leader. I look forward to getting to know everyone at Clearwater Elementary.”
Before the start of the new school year Lowe says she will meet with her school’s stakeholders.
“I will be meeting with the assistant principal and the faculty and we will schedule a meet-and-greet with students and parents in the future,” stated Lowe.
Lowe describes her personal leadership style as both collaborative and transformational.
“It’s very important to receive feedback from all stakeholders, and I also enjoy working with teachers and growing them as leaders within their grade levels and the school,” commented Lowe. “Building greater teacher capacity to lead within the school and working as a team is very important to me and I’m really excited to get started."
Lowe will begin her duties as Clearwater Elementary School principal in July.
