Experienced Educator Sabrina Buggs Named New Assistant Principal at Schofield Middle School

When the opportunity to serve in a leadership role in the very same school where she began her career more than 15 years ago became available, Sabrina Buggs knew she could not let the opportunity pass her by.

The Aiken County Board of Education approved Buggs’ appointment as the new assistant principal at Schofield Middle School for the 2021-22 school year during the school board’s Tuesday, July 13, 2021, regularly scheduled meeting.

“My life’s work is to serve students and working at Schofield Middle is like coming full circle,” stated Buggs.

Buggs began her career in education as a Special Education Aide at Schofield Middle School. She then taught Social Studies at schools around the state before returning to Aiken County where she served at the former Aiken Middle School and A.L. Corbett Middle School.

Prior to her appointment as assistant principal, she worked with middle school educators as a Social Studies Content Interventionist, a role which allowed her to observe classrooms, assess student learning, and coach teachers, providing them with teaching techniques and professional development opportunities.

“As a Content Interventionist I had the opportunity to work with teachers to support them in educating their students, and transitioning to an assistant principal will allow me to shift back to working with students directly, which is my passion,” commented Buggs.

Her academic background includes a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from the University of South Carolina Aiken, and a Master of Education in Secondary Education from Grand Canyon University. Buggs is currently working to obtain her Doctorate in Education from Grand Canyon University.

Buggs says she is looking forward to creating meaningful relationships with students and staff at Schofield Middle School where she will begin her duties later this month.

“Being an assistant principal is not only about discipline, it’s an opportunity to be an instructional leader that contributes to the student achievement,” Buggs added. “I cannot wait to get back to school and interact with our students, teachers and parents.”
