Amanda Wilson Serving as New Assistant Principal of Mossy Creek Elementary School

Transitioning from the role of a classroom teacher to that of a school administrator is often a natural career progression, but moving from teaching high school students to leading elementary students offered Amanda Wilson a new and exciting challenge.

The Aiken County Board of Education approved Wilson’s appointment as the new assistant principal at Mossy Creek Elementary School for the 2021-22 school year during the school board’s May 11, 2021, regularly scheduled meeting.

“When I first became a teacher, I wanted to be a voice for the students in my classroom,” stated Wilson. “From there, I also saw the need for a voice for not only students, but teachers as well. As an administrator, I can be a voice for both.”

Wilson’s academic background includes a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Augusta State University, a Master of Arts in Teaching and a Master of Arts in Executive Leadership Studies, both from Gardner-Webb University.

She also holds a South Carolina Professional Certification, and is certified as a 4.0 evaluator, 4.0 Evaluation System – Train the Trainer, and a CERRA mentor.

Wilson began her career in education as a substitute teacher in 2012, and served as a high school science teacher for the last six years at North Augusta High School.

Wilson says she is excited to support Mossy Creek Elementary educators in her new role.

“As a leader I will work in conjunction with teachers and not from a podium dictating what they will do,” she stated. “I am an ‘in the trenches’ type of leader, working right there beside them.”

Wilson’s duties as Mossy Creek Elementary School assistant principal began in July.
