Assistant Principal Sherrod Davis Supporting Students, Teachers, and Community at Midland Valley High

Sherrod Davis understands the importance of providing just a little more to students who face the steepest challenges to individual success both inside and outside of the classroom. This could mean a little more encouragement or just a little more attention.

As the new assistant principal at Midland Valley High School for the 2021-22 school year, Davis has been able to use his ability to build relationships to help students who need that extra support while also serving educators and the school’s community.

Aiken County Board of Education members approved Davis’ appointment as a new assistant principal at Midland Valley High School for the 2021-22 school year during the school board’s March 9, 2021, regularly scheduled meeting.

With a passion for education, Davis says being able to help students on a broader scale and serving the community have always been his goals.

“I enjoy being able to participate in the development and evaluation of instruction, assist in the creation of a positive learning environment that supports student learning, and engage in the coordination of the overall operational structures that exist within Midland Valley,” stated Davis.

Davis said his ability to build relationships with others is key as an assistant principal, and he is excited to collaborate with all stakeholders.

“The parents, guardians, and community partners, all play a vital role in the success of our students and as assistant principal I can help students individually or in collaboration with others,” commented Davis.

Davis’ academic background includes a Bachelor of Arts in Social Science with an Education Concentration, a Master of Arts in Educational Technology, and a Master of Education in Special Education from Ashford University in Iowa, and an Educational Administration and Leadership add-on from Gardner-Webb University.

Davis began his career in education in 2013 as a paraprofessional in Special Education with Aiken County Public Schools. He has also served as a special education teacher in the school district.

In his new role as an administrator, Davis enjoys growing and developing students and educators. One of his focus areas is working to support a strong graduation rate by encouraging students from disadvantaged backgrounds who he believes need the most support.

“Helping to ensure that students complete high school can have a major impact on the student’s life, that family, and our community,” stated Davis. “Earning a high school diploma impacts long term employment opportunities and is an important aspect in paving the way for the student’s next step in life, whether that be college, trade school, military training or another pathway.”

His duties as Midland Valley High School assistant principal began in July.
