Board of Education Approves Modified Calendar Concept for 2023-24, District Celebrates School Board Appreciation Month

The Aiken County Board of Education approved the concept of a modified academic calendar for the 2023-2024 school year during its regularly scheduled meeting held Tuesday, January 25, 2022. The school board also approved the development of a comprehensive plan to help address previously identified areas of concern prior to the implementation of the modified calendar.

An official version of the 2023-2024 modified academic school calendar will be recommended to board members for approval at a later date. In accordance with district policy, administration will present a new calendar recommendation for the 2022-2023 school year at an upcoming regular meeting.

“Approval of the modified academic calendar for the 2023-2024 school year provides our parents, staff, and community with plenty of time to prepare for the changes a modified calendar will bring while also allowing more time for us to address any remaining concerns our families and staff may have about the modified calendar,” stated Aiken County Superintendent King Laurence.

Superintendent Laurence expressed appreciation to school district stakeholders who provided feedback during the District’s exploration of a modified calendar.

“We thank everyone who took the time to respond to our surveys or attend a town hall meeting for their participation,” commented Superintendent Laurence. “Parental engagement is critical to our success as an organization so we want to continue to encourage our parents to provide us with feedback on important items to them and to partner with us at every possible opportunity.”

The month of January is School Board Appreciation Month and District administration celebrated the contributions of the Aiken County Board of Education with a special "thank you" video featuring students and school district employees. Also, as part of School Board Appreciation Month, each board member signed the S.C. School Boards Association Ethical Principles poster signifying their commitment to excellence in school district governance.
