GRANITEVILLE – Cheryl Morris has coached more than a few talented teams during her time as Paul Knox Middle School girls’ head basketball coach. Morris says her 2021-22 squad stacks up favorably with her very best teams.
The Paul Knox Middle School Lady Patriots and head coach Cheryl Morris on finishing another undefeated season (the team's second consecutive unbeaten season for a 28-0 record over the last two years) following a 43-19 win over the Kennedy Middle School Lady Eagles on Thursday, February 10, 2022, at Leavelle McCampbell Middle.
“This is probably one of the best teams that I’ve had over the years,” stated Morris following the championship game. “Three or four of these girls have been playing together since they were in elementary school and on AAU teams so you have to give them a lot of credit for playing together. It has helped out a lot, especially over the last two years.”
“They weren’t able to get a lot of shots off against the press tonight,” Morris said of her team’s defensive intensity. “We’ve had some good talent and the girls have played very hard.”
Congratulations also to the Lady Eagles (10-3) and head coach Stephanie Prandy on a terrific season.
“The 21-22 Lady Eagles were a hard-working and energetic group of young ladies,” commented Prandy. “They were a lot of fun to coach and they made tremendous progress throughout our season. I look forward to watching them continue their basketball careers in high school and beyond.”
Seventh-grader Ashley Walker led all scorers with a game-high 17 points for the Lady Patriots. Kenedi Wright added 13 points and Lillie Parrish chipped in with 5 points. Tearesa Kimble had 3 points in the game for PKMS, while Taylor Boney and Tahj Flowers also scored for the Lady Patriots.
Zy'Rionna Lewis led the Lady Eagles with a team-high 7 points, while Shamaria Jenkins added 6 points. Myrycle Culbreathe and Tegeria Brown each chipped in with 3 points.
