Gloverville Elementary School PTO and Community Celebrate Crowning of 50th Annual Valentine Court

GLOVERVILLE – The 50th annual Gloverville Elementary School Valentine's Court held Tuesday, February 15, 2022, was an event fit for kings and queens. Hosted by the Gloverville Elementary School PTO, the longstanding tradition of selecting a Valentine's Court has been the school’s most successful fundraiser.

The event dates back to 1972 when Joyce Robinson, a cafeteria worker at the school, began collecting donations in the community on behalf of the students to support the needs of the school. Over the years the tradition expanded to introduce the students to fundraising and becoming more engaged in the Gloverville community.

Each class nominates a king and queen who are responsible for raising money for the event in fun ways that allow all students to participate. This year’s 32 nominees each had an opportunity to host a dollar day where students who paid a dollar could dress up in the theme of the day. Each dollar raised that particular day equated to one vote for the nominee. After all the money was turned in and carefully counted, students dressed in their finest attire and waited to hear the event’s emcee Aaron Deer call their names as they escorted one another to the stage at Langley-Bath-Clearwater Middle School.

Students, staff, local businesses, and community members came together to support the students of Gloverville Elementary by raising a total of $15,638.05.

Gloverville Elementary PTO members, including President Sara Rooney, Vice President Christy Spradley, Treasurer Tamara Feagin, and Secretary Penny Goggans, were thrilled to continue the longstanding tradition knowing every dollar raised will benefit the students.

“This fundraiser teaches the kids to go out into the community and create and maintain relationships,” commented Rooney. “Community members and local businesses want to give and be involved with our school community.”

“This is a wonderful tradition that is very family oriented,” added Nathan Lobaugh, Gloverville Elementary School principal. “Some of these students have parents that were also on the Valentine's Court, so the community is really invested in this event.”
