School Board Approves Modified Academic Calendar for the 2023-24 School Year, First Day of School is July 25

The Aiken County Board of Education approved the 2023-24 Aiken County Public School District Modified Academic Calendar during its regular meeting held Tuesday, March 8, 2022.

The first day of school for students in the 2023-24 school academic calendar will be Tuesday, July 25, 2023. The final day of school for the 2023-24 school year will be Thursday, May 30, 2024.

The modified academic calendar features a pair of two-week breaks, one in the fall (October 2-13, 2023) and another in the spring (April 1-12, 2024). The first week of each break has been designated for academic intercession, intervention, and enrichment for students who will be invited to participate. Teachers will have the opportunity to volunteer to serve during each of the designated weeks for additional duty pay, similar to traditional summer program employment.

“We appreciate the action taken by our school board in approving our recommended calendar, which will provide additional academic intervention and enrichment opportunities for our students who have the greatest need of support,” stated Aiken County Superintendent King Laurence. “The intercession periods are scheduled at some of the most critical times of the school year for our students, teachers, and staff.”

The end of the first academic quarter in the 2023-24 school academic calendar falls on Wednesday, September 27, 2023. The second quarter will end on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, prior to the District’s traditional 10-day Winter Break. Third quarter will end on Monday, March 11, 2024, with the end of the fourth quarter falling on May 30, 2024.
