Dually-Enrolled Midland Valley High Seniors Earn College Diploma in Early Graduation Ceremony

Fifteen Midland Valley High School seniors donning their caps and gowns walked across the stage at the USC Aiken Convocation Center to accept their associate’s degree diploma from Aiken Technical College May 3, 2022, one month before receiving their high school diploma.

Now in its fourth year, the Early College program is a dual enrollment partnership between Aiken County Public Schools and Aiken Technical College that allows high school students to earn college credit while still in high school.

The 2022 Early College graduates include Midland Valley High School seniors Inara Brady, Azora Cash, Carolina Couvillon, Carly Downs, Alexis Ewing, Kristen Franklin, Lauren Friday, Fernando Gomez, Avery Gray, Trayton Gregory, Roy Humphreys, Klayre King, Jeffrey Martin, Emma Troup, and Palmer Wiggins.

“The Early College program is such a tremendous opportunity for Midland Valley High School students and our community,” said Midland Valley High Principal Sheldon Higgenbottom. “We couldn’t be more proud of this group of scholars. The dedication and focus it took to earn this diploma is unmatched, and I know we will see greatness in each of their futures.”

Early College graduate Emma Troup made history by becoming the first dual enrollment student who earned the Buck Grant Award, Aiken Technical College’s top academic award which is given based on academic success as well as contributions to the college and the community.

“We are so grateful for this partnership with Aiken Technical College,” said Aiken County Public Schools Chief Officer of Instruction Jeanie Glover. “Early College is a wonderful collaboration that benefits our students academically, their families financially, and our community as a whole.”
