District Celebrates 100 Retirees During Annual Banquet

With a combined total of 2,561 years of service in the field of education, 100 Aiken County Public School District (ACPSD) employees were honored for their many contributions and celebrated for their service during a retirement dinner held Monday, May 23, at 6:00 p.m. at Newberry Hall in downtown Aiken.

The District will say a final farewell to beloved teachers, custodians, counselors, and office attendants following the 2021-22 school year, including Rosemary Quarles who has dedicated 44 years of service to teaching at Belvedere Elementary, and Leavelle McCampbell Middle School English Language Arts teacher Deborah Ann Coleman-Void, who will retire with 42 years of service in education.

“We are so thankful to these amazing retirees for all they have done to serve our students and support each other over the years,” stated Aiken County Public Schools Chief Officer of Instruction Jeanie Glover. “We’re excited to celebrate people like Ms. Quarles, who has spent her entire career in one school. That is a testament to the school’s culture and the community as well as her commitment to both.”

As we wrap up the 2021-22 school year, custodians who have made an impact upon the lives of generations of students will soon clean their school cafeterias for the last time. Secretaries will cheerfully answer their last on-the-job phone call, bus drivers will safely transport students on their last career route, and school food service workers will serve one last healthy meal to their students.

“These professionals have spent years of their lives pouring into our students. We are so grateful for their dedication,” commented ACPSD Superintendent King Laurence.

“They have left lasting impressions on students and will be remembered for years to come. We are grateful for their service and wish each of our retirees the best,” Superintendent Laurence added.

The Aiken County Public School District wishes the following employees all the best in their upcoming retirements – we are grateful for their many years of service to the community and time well spent improving the lives of our students.
