Melinda O'Connell to Serve as Director of School Food Services

Melinda O’Connell will serve as the new Director of School Food Services, succeeding Karen Johnson who is retiring at the end of July.

The Aiken County Board of Education approved O’Connell’s appointment during the school board’s July 12, 2022, regularly scheduled meeting.

O’Connell, who earned a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Western Governors University, has worked with school districts across the country for the last 14 years, and was most recently employed by Lexington School District 3 as the Director of Child Nutrition. 

“We are pleased to have Ms. O’Connell join our staff,” said ACPSD Chief Officer of Finance Tray Traxler. “Her experience and knowledge of School Food Services will serve us well.”

O’Connell will be responsible for ensuring that schools provide balanced nutritional food following federal and state regulations, overseeing food service operations at each school, and purchasing supplies, among other duties. 

Her duties as the new Director of School Food Services will begin in August.
